Pretrial
Diversion
Pretrial Diversion was developed to intervene with adult first-time felony
offenders in an effort to stop detrimental behavior and thus reduce the
likelihood of further offenses. Defense attorneys for these first-time felony
offenders request diversion through the Summit County Prosecutor's Office. If
determined appropriate for the program by a diversion counselor, the offender
will enter the Pretrial Diversion Program and begin working with a diversion
counselor to identify and overcome behaviors that led to their first offense.
Clients work with a counselor from six months to a year. If successful in
completing agreed upon goals and finishing restitution payments, the client will
have a hearing where, in most cases, the charges are dismissed upon successful
completion of the program. |
