CROSSWAEH CBCF Receives National Accreditation
The CROSSWAEH Community Based Correctional Facility (CBCF)
managed by Oriana House, Inc., earned a perfect score on its reaccredidation
audit by the American Correctional Association (ACA).
The accreditation process involved a two-day, on-site visit by
ACA auditors who reviewed 251 standards, met with Oriana House staff, and
interviewed offenders in the CROSSWAEH CBCF program. The CROSSWAEH CBCF scored
100% on the mandatory and non-mandatory audit requirements.
The CBCF program provides a highly-structured and secure
community sanction for felony offenders and offers chemical dependency
treatment, academic assessments and opportunities, community service, and
employment training which are all imperative to the rehabilitation of offenders.
Research shows that carefully screened offenders can be diverted from prison to
controlled community supervision settings without compromising the safety of the
community and with significantly higher success rates.
Offenders sentenced to CBCFs usually complete the program in
four to six months and are involved in a multi-tiered treatment plan. There are
four phases of programming and offenders are given more responsibilities as they
progress through the phases.
“Oriana House, Inc., has an excellent record of putting quality
educational programs in place to better address the needs of the client
population they serve,” said ACA auditor Michael Youngken.
According to Jason Varney, vice president of correctional
programs in Seneca County, “The audit results confirm that CROSSWAEH is
operating and providing programming above the national standards.”
In presenting the awards, Robert Garvey, chairperson of the
Commission on Accreditation for Corrections and Gwendolyn C. Chunn, president of
the ACA, complimented James Lawrence, president/CEO of Oriana House, and his
staff on their professional level of operation and their success in completing
the accreditation process.
The CROSSWAEH CBCF serves the nine-county region of Crawford,
Richland, Ottawa, Seneca, Sandusky, Wyandot, Ashland, Erie, and Huron counties.
Oriana House manages CROSSWEAH and is headquartered in Akron, Ohio.
