Drug Court

This program, available through Akron Municipal Court and Summit County Court of Common Pleas, accelerates the prosecution process and mandates treatment/drug education for eligible offenders. Approval from the arresting police department is required for inclusion in the program. Clients complete four phases of programming, are subject to random and routine urine and alcohol testing and must adhere to individual programming requirements. The assigned Drug Court Judge conducts weekly court sessions for both disposition and judicial review purposes. The Judge both directly rewards and sanctions offenders based on behavior. Predetermined levels of sanctions are utilized for failure to stay drug and alcohol free or to comply with programming requirements. Successful completion of this 12 - 18 month long program results in dismissal of the charge.
