Access to Recovery

Many individuals who are in need of treatment for an illicit drug or alcohol use problem don't receive treatment. Access to Recovery is a three year federal grant program that is intended to:

  • Provide clients a choice among providers of substance abuse clinical treatment and recovery support services
  • Expand access to clinical treatment and recovery support options
  • Address the gaps in that occur in the treatment process

In Ohio, Summit, Stark, and Cuyahoga counties are participating in the Access to Recovery project, which is estimated to benefit 6,200 adults in Ohio.

How does it work?

  • Clients are assessed and given a voucher for services based on individual need.
  • Clients are provided with a list of both faith-based and community-based recovery support service providers from which to choose.
  • Services covered are non-clinical and are designed to provide support and assistance to an individual as he/she reintegrates into the community. They may include: employment coaching, spiritual support, child care, temporary housing assistance, literacy training, transportation, and budgeting classes.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible an individual must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a resident of Summit, Cuyahoga, or Stark county and 18 years of age or older
  • Have a diagnosis of alcohol and/or drug abuse, or be in remission
  • Be involved with the criminal justice system (must have a conviction, and if a resident of Stark or Cuyahoga counties must be under supervision)
  • Have an income that does not exceed 200% of the federal poverty level
  • Have a bio-psychosocial assessment/update (Oriana House can provide this)
